Dental Veneers
Dental Veneers are the most conservative restorations we offer. They consist of a thin strip of porcelain that covers the front side of a tooth. We use porcelain because we can change the color to closely match your natural teeth. Unlike crowns, which cover the entirety of a tooth, veneers require less enamel removal, so most of your original tooth structure stays intact. Rather than replacing your whole tooth, a veneer gives your tooth a “new face.” Because they are minimally invasive, dental veneers are essential tools of cosmetic dentistry.
Getting a veneer requires at least two appointments. At the first appointment, the dentist prepares your tooth so a veneer can be placed. A couple weeks later, they will permanently attach the veneer to your tooth.
Dental Veneer Preparation and Process
Dental veneers typically require two visits to complete. During the first appointment, your dentist will gently shape the surface of your teeth to accommodate the veneers. Impressions are taken to create custom veneers, and together, you’ll choose a shade that best matches your natural smile.
Our teeth are thoroughly cleaned with special solutions to ensure a strong bond. The veneers are then placed using dental cement and secured with a curing light. After the procedure, you’ll be given care instructions—regular brushing, flossing, and dental checkups will help maintain your veneers for years to come.
The main purpose of dental veneers is to enhance the natural look of your teeth. They offer a highly effective cosmetic solution, requiring minimal reshaping compared to dental crowns. Importantly, the process involves no metal components.
Porcelain veneers are highly compatible with gum tissue, stain-resistant, and incredibly durable. According to the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, porcelain veneers typically last between 7 and 20 years, with the potential for even longer durability when maintained with proper oral care.
What Makes Porcelain Veneers the Ideal Choice?
- Durable – With proper care, porcelain veneers can last anywhere from 7 to 20 years
- Stain-resistant – Porcelain is more resistant to discoloration than natural teeth
- Biocompatible – Highly compatible with gum tissue for added comfort
- Metal-free – Delivers a fully natural appearance with no metal involved
What to Expect from the Veneer Procedure
1. Consultation & Treatment Planning
At your initial visit, we will assess your teeth, discuss your cosmetic goals, and determine whether veneers are the best solution for you. While veneers offer significant aesthetic improvements, they may not be appropriate for patients with:
Active tooth decay
Gum disease
Excessively thin enamel
Severe teeth grinding (bruxism), which may cause veneers to crack
If veneers aren’t the best option, we will recommend alternative treatments to help you achieve your desired smile.
2. Tooth Preparation & Impressions
Before placing veneers, a small amount of tooth enamel (about 0.5mm) is gently removed from the front surface of each tooth to allow a perfect fit.
Mild sensitivity may occur, but it subsides within a few days.
Once the teeth are prepared:
- A dental impression is taken and sent to a specialized lab to create your custom veneers
- Temporary veneers may be placed while waiting for the permanent ones
This process typically takes 5–10 days, allowing time for both the veneers to be crafted and your gums to heal.
3. Veneer Application & Final Bonding
Once your custom veneers are ready, they will be permanently bonded to your teeth in a precise, multi-step process:
- Teeth are cleaned, polished, and chemically etched to ensure a strong bond
- Veneers are placed with a special bonding cement
- The cement is color-matched to blend with your natural teeth
- A curing light is used to harden the cement and secure the veneer
After placement, we will make final adjustments to ensure your veneers feel comfortable and look flawless
Advantages of Dental Veneers
After your veneers are placed, you may experience mild sensitivity for the first few days. To help with your recovery, we recommend the following:
- Gaps between teeth
- Chips
- Discolorations and stains
- Teeth misalignment
- Normal wear and tear among the teeth
Dental veneers can correct these conditions. In fact, advances in porcelain veneer technology have made it possible to mask common dental problems such as those listed above without sacrificing a great deal of the original tooth structure.
Application
This stage typically takes about 10 days and involves thoroughly cleaning, polishing, chemically etching, and roughening the surface of the teeth to ensure a strong bond for the veneers. Once prepared, the veneers are securely placed using either clear or opaque cement, which is carefully tinted to match the color of your natural teeth for a seamless look.

Frequently Asked Questions
To make sure that porcelain veneers are right for you, our dentists will make sure you don’t have any untreated issues like cavities or gum disease beforehand. After all, the health of your smile is more important and urgent than the cosmetic aspect of it. If you clench or grind your teeth, we may recommend a nightguard to prevent harmful wear and tear of your veneers.
You’re a great candidate for veneers if you have one or more of the following imperfections in your smile to correct:
- Chipped, cracked, or broken teeth
- Discoloration
- Small gaps between teeth
- Minorly misaligned teeth
Though we can remove dental veneers, they are not reversible. When your teeth are prepped for the dental veneer procedure, the top layer of enamel is removed so the caps will fit over them perfectly. Unfortunately, once your tooth enamel is removed, it cannot be restored. Thus, porcelain veneers are a permanent solution and, when removed, must be replaced with new veneers.
As far as dental restorations go, veneers preserve the most amount of tooth structure (compared to crowns, for instance) as they require very minimal tooth structure to be removed. They may help improve the appearance of your teeth, and gum tissues respond well to dental veneers. The colour can be matched to the other teeth and these types of restorations are relatively stain-resistant.
Once you have had your tooth prepared for the veneer, the process is not reversible. In the case that a veneer cracks, it is difficult to repair without having to replace the entire veneer. For people who have poor gum health, veneers are not a good option. It is important not to have habits like pen-chewing or nail-biting as these can crack the veneer. In addition, people who grind or clench their teeth are at risk for chipping or cracking their veneers. Lastly, veneers are still susceptible to decay so it is important that you maintain optimal oral health and visit your dentist regularly.
Veneers are durable and have been shown to last for many years before requiring replacement. for six- monthly check-ups for regular examinations and dental cleanings is important for maintaining the health of your mouth and longevity of your restorations.

Carol at the front desk is a true delight and focused on taking care of the patients. She puts them first and brings a natural scene of trust to the table. As does her colleague being my hygienist. This to include the Dr. herself who was kind, patient and gave out a sense of confidence and peace. Operating area is spacious and sanitized nicely.
